How to Identify a Watch Movement

The safest method is to have a watchmaker open the case and identify the caliber from its architecture and markings. Rotor shape or hand motion may offer hints, but they are not conclusive from the outside.

Do not open a watch yourself unless you have the tools and know how to reseal it.
